Happy Mother's Day

This post is (almost) late as Mother's Day will be over in about 2 minutes, but I still wanted to take the time to wish all the mothers out there a special day and best wishes.

We were gone all day and I've been so busy with writing assignments, so this is the first chance I've had to post. That's OK, though. All mothers deserve to be recognized each and every day.

In the words of Washington Irving: "A mother's love endures through all." That is so true.

We spent today at the Ronald McDonald House in Spokane (about 100 miles north of here) serving brunch to the folks who are staying at the house. There were about 20 moms on hand and each got a pretty little candle and flower arrangement with Irving's quote attached.

Often, we forget how lucky we are. It's good to visit with those who are having to endure special trials in their lives, such as those moms at the Ronald McDonald House.

I first became acquainted with the staff when my grandson Harley was born 5-1/2 years ago. He was premature, weighing in at 1 pound, 10 ounces, and spent the first four months or so in the neonatal intensive care unit. Today, he's a feisty preschooler and will be off to kindergarten in the fall. He's healthy and rambunctious and you'd never know he struggled to survive that precarious start in life.

The staff at the Ronald McDonald House was so kind and helpful during that ordeal. Since then, we have tried to get up there two or three times a year to do something special for the families staying there.

And that's why I extend my very best wishes to all mothers at this time. God bless you all!
